Library Liaison and Instruction Programs
There are many ways that both faculty and students have access to instruction in the use of online resources and on-site library resources, one of which is the Library Faculty Liaison Program (LFLP). The LFLP supports the academic curriculum through the Library Instruction (LI) Program, which is tailored to meet the current and potential needs of students and faculty. The program aims to develop an awareness of the variety of reference and other informational resources accessible through the library, its website, or via Blackboard, the University’s course management system. As a proactive, subject-oriented partnership program, the LFLP provides users access to regular, timely, and point-of-need instruction facilitated through personal consultation with the faculty and students on their instructional and research needs. Both the LFLP and Library Instruction Programs serve to promote a two-way, interactive, collaborative communication pattern between the library-faculty liaison and the faculty in planning, designing, and implementing a well-rounded academic program for students. Instructional focus includes defining the information needs, searching, evaluating, and using information effectively. All librarians serve as liaisons to designated departments on campus and provide services to the students and faculty as identified in the LFLP. Faculty generally make instructional requests relevant to the various levels of instruction by completing the Library Instruction request form.
Through the LFLP, three levels of library instructions are provided to students:
